Funny how things come to you just when you are ready to see/hear what they have to say. And so it was today when a friend sent me an blog post (2006) from Christine Kane called “Who do you think you are?”. It’s about those nagging voices that shout louder and louder as you grow and expand beyond your comfort zone. It’s a great read, and reminder that any time we have a cool idea, get excited and start thinking big those voices are there undermining our confidence and fueling our doubts and fears. It also reminds us that there are times when we ask the same of others when they expand or grow, often because of our own deep seated insecurities and fears that we are not good enough.
It’s not something you want to spend hours (or days) agonising over, but what are your pet doubts and fears? You know, those patterns of thought and action that recur for you. These are the things that stop us, not only from not doing, being or having something we want, but they stop us even dreaming about them in the first place.
So what would you do, be or have if their was nothing stopping you. This may be about making your business the way you dreamed it could be, or it may be something in your personal life. Whatever it is, it is your habit of focusing on the limitation rather than the possibility that stops you in your tracks.
Naming them is half way to overcoming their energy sapping presence and replacing them with something more positive. Start by taking time to “workshop” what you really want – think big, bright, bold and audacious! If you don’t know what your big dreams are, sit quietly and ask for guidance. Then keep your eyes and ears open because the information will come to you in the most unexpected ways.
When you know what you want, get right into the feelings of how it would be to do, be or have it. Write about your dreams, or create a visual representation like a vision board. Then trust that if you can dream it, it can come to you.
This is critical to your business success, because without a vision of how you want your business to be, and belief that it can happen, you will find that you struggle to create anything much, let alone what you’d really like to have. What seems like a luxury of sitting and “dreaming” is a foundation to achieving whatever you want, because all of your thoughts and actions will come into alignment with your purpose. Not only does this give your the pathway to creating as you wish, it is an investment in your self-worth that will be tangible to your clients, family, friends and the world at large.
